November 15, 2022 – Power Integrations (NASDAQ stock code: POWI), a well-known company deeply engaged in the field of high-voltage integrated circuits and high-efficient power conversion, has launched a new member of InnoSwitch4 series constant voltage/constant current offline flyback switching power supply IC after years of research and development and iteration in the switching power supply IC industry. The new member IC InnoSwitch4-Pro has programmable, compact and efficient zero-voltage characteristics. With the gallium nitride (GaN) technology developed by Power Integrations, PowiGaN’s ICInnoSwitch4-Pro, in the PI highly integrated off-line flyback switch IC, the PowiGaN switch replaces the traditional silicon transistor on the primary side, thus reducing the switching loss. Compared with silicon devices, the PowiGaN product can achieve smaller size, lighter weight, and more efficient chargers, adapters, and open power supplies. InnoSwitch4-Pro design details
InnoSwitch series IC integrates primary, secondary and feedback circuits into a surface-mounted off-line flyback switch IC at the same time. All InnoSwitch ICs are integrated with primary power switch, primary side controller, secondary side controller for synchronous rectification and innovative FluxLink technology that can eliminate optocoupler. The original intention of the InnoSwitch4-Pro design standard is to be compatible with various protocols, improve the efficiency of power transmission, reduce the cost and difficulty of the product, and meet various use scenarios without being limited by the protocol.
The efficiency of the PowiGaN-based IC in the whole load range is up to 95%, and the output power of up to 100W can be achieved without heat sink in the closed adapter application environment. Fast charger protocols such as USB PD can significantly shorten the charging time of mobile phones, reducing the charging market from a few hours to less than 20 minutes. At the same time, users can use a charger for mobile phones, tablets and laptops at the same time, improving the user experience while reducing environmental pollution and product manufacturing costs. Multi-port chargers with three-dimensional structure can bring better user experience than single-port chargers. High-frequency and high-efficiency GaN power devices can have higher power density. Compared with multiple single-port chargers, multi-port chargers have different advantages in terms of size, weight and space layout.
